Have you ever had a time in your life when you just felt fully incapable of accomplishing the task that you were engaged in? Whether it be your job, something your wife had planned for you to do around the house, or something that God had asked of you. I have felt that way plenty of times over the course of my lifetime. Like the time when I was cooking at the steak house as a high school student, I'll never forget the pressure of cooking for Mother's Day. We had so many orders that we had to stack steaks on top of each other and then rotate them onto the grill as their turn came up. It was crazy! When I first became a youth pastor, I thought, how in the world am I going to prepare sermons every week for these students. When I became a pastor I never imagined how many times a week I would think, "Man, I blew that, or I can't accomplish that task, or God, are you sure I am the right one for the job". It's almost daily! The truth is, we often feel very inadequate to accomplish the things that God has asked us to do. We feel like we don't have it in us or there is someone better for the job. While we are thinking all of this, I believe God is thinking, "You got it in ya!". I find this to be an encouragement, that God asked me to do what I am doing. That means, He will equip me to do it. The same is true for you! If God has asked you to do something, know that He has given you the necessary equipment and skills to do it, even if you aren't seeing it! I was once told by a mentor of mine, Phil Brassfield, when I was having one of these question sessions, "God always shows up faithful and will equip you to do what He is asking. The tool box is loaded. You just haven’t gotten all the tools out yet. Just keep trusting God and when it’s time, it’ll be there."
I love what Paul said in Philippians 2:13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. He then goes on to say in verse 14 to do everything without grumbling or complaining. So, let me challenge you today to find strength in God's calling and equipping in your life, no matter how hard it is or how unequipped you feel. Rest easy in His ability to use you in big ways!
A good example of how God can equip us is Moses's story. You should read it and see how God speaks to you. You can read it in Exodus 3 or you can click here.
