You and I need God more than anything on this planet! ANYTHING! Really, we need Him more than food, we need Him more than water. We need Him more than we need our friendships, our jobs, even our marriages. Now that is intense to think about, but it is absolutely true. Unfortunately many of us put the majority of our effort into all of these other things instead of the one thing that matters most. Let's just be honest, it is so easy to allow all of this other stuff to pull our attention from our pursuit of the things God has for us. We may still be Godly people with Godly desires, but in many cases our pursuit and relationship with God is an item on the shelf along with everything else. This mindset has to change. He is everything, He deserves our everything.
Paul writes in Romans 12, "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
His writing in this passage is far from an encouragement to just go to church. It is far from a challenge to do something for God. I believe it is a plea for people to surrender everything to God, our whole lives. I don't knock it out of the park all of the time when it comes to this. In reality, I fall short often. But this verse has been on the forefront of my mind for the past 6 months. Why, because I want to think differently. I have been praying during the course of the fast that God would help me to have more than just good idea. I have been praying that He gives me God ideas. Ideas that will rewrite the very DNA of my being, ideas that will transform the way I love my family, the way I love others. I am praying that the ideas He gives as I surrender fully to Him will transform the way I lead our church and those in our community.
My prayer today is for you and I to learn to cut through all the things that are begging for our attention and learn to reshape every part of our lives to be focused on the things God has for us to live out!
As I have been asking God to come in and reshape me this week, this song has been wrecking me! I hope you find it an encouragement in your pursuit of knowing Jesus this week!
